There are always going to be factors at a live broadcast that cannot be controlled - streaming issues, hardware breakage or failure, unexpected changes to lineup, schedule or agreements, not to mention the unpredictability of personalities - someone may decide at the last minute they do not want their set recorded, for example. That's all part and parcel of a live event. Preparation is as good is it can possibly be, and then...remember Markus Schulz leaping over the dj booth to tackle the girl who stole his usb stick, or smashing his turntables on the floor because they broke? Stuff is going to happen...

But to suggest that the root of any recent issues is somehow a lack of competence or dedication on the part of the AH crew is entirely without merit. I think they do a remarkably good job of it, as volunteers no less. I don't think it would make a difference if they were paid, they would not work harder or put more into it than they already do. I for one am appreciative of their efforts. Thank you, Laan, Jeffrey and all the others.

very nicely said mate, none of AH staff want's bad for the station or broadcasts itself... we do our best each time and learn from mistakes, however sometimes unexpected things happen and decisions must be made on the spot.

    cheers community !

Thanks for all the kind words. We are open for any kind of feedback, as long as it is brought in a feedback kind of way and not in some kind of ''I only post whiny stuff without knowing anything about it'' way..

So by this still any good and also bad feedback is welcome..

Just made it through this whole thread, which took me a while(!).

I'll try to be fair here and say the postive and negative things for the live broadcasts. I can understand why someone is irritated by the volume. At some points the volume is too low and you have to turn it to max just to hear something and other times it is loud as hell. I am no geek and surely doesn't know much about what kinds of technical skills it takes, but can't you do something, so the volume will stay the same or is that all depending of the DJ and how he/she has mastered the set?

At some point the broadcasts had a lot of buffering and suddenly stopped. For the last couple of broadcasts it hasn't been a problem, so not sure if you guys have made any changes or something, but well done

This is the only radio-station I have seen which is so focused on live broadcasting and I love it! With the amount of broadcasts you guys are presenting of course it goes wrong sometimes, you can't always be perfect: Technical issues, the schedule can be changed or a small thing can fall of, so the whole god damn system collapses, but you can't point fingers at the crew here, they aren't trying to mess it up on purpose.

As for the whole money issue, I haven't really understood it yet. This is a free radio-station, if you don't want to support it by paying a few dollars each month, then dont. Of course there should be some kind of benefits for the moderaters and crew, they are trying to make this station work for all the rest of us (no spaming, no breakdown, the schedule etc. etc.) I think we should thank the crew for all the hard work they are doing here!

Of course the members are helping the crew, it would be un heard of it we didn't! If you don't want to help this forum by speaking in a normal tone and trying to behave yourself, well, don't come here, no one wants anything to do with you then.

Dan had a goal with this station, to have an open, free net-station which plays trance 24/7 and he have done it better than any of us would have done!
There have been issues in the past, both technical and some people who couldn't behave themself, but you can't avoid that.

All credit goes to Dan, the rest of the crew and the many members here who are doing their best to make the station work.

I think Violeta wanted to point out some stuff that obviously went wrong recently on the Live Broadcasts and maybe she was wondering if everything was done correctly and if, by any chance, there is something that can be done to improve the quality of the Broadcasts.

and let's face it anyone can improve (and this goes for everything, even Messi can improve, even Tarantino can improve) but sometimes saying to someone :"ok, you've done some stuff there, you have to work on that cuz you know there's something going wrong"... during, the last 10 months, I've faced this kind of statements cuz I was starting in a new job. I didn't liked it, it was a pain in the a** BUT I took it like i must have, I listened and I worked on it. And I did improve.

So I can understand Violeta feeling that you're not getting the right way cause I'm sure (and if she doesn't agree, she'll say it) she only wants ah to improve. so instead of saying your doing an important job etc..., that we all know already (and we thank you for it), is there a teeny-tiny chance that somewhere you can improve?

we all know that sometimes it's not your fault:

    even Violeta stated it...

so I think we all have to stay calm about it and try to see the constructive part of it...

I think a good analogy to describe an internet connection would be a a multi lane bridge, now this bridge would allow packets of data (cars) to go across and reach the server side and the client side.

Now lets imagine that the number of lanes on this bridge can increase or decrease at any second, and that the cars would be automatically merged into the remaining lanes, rather than fall into the water. while most of the trafic is not really effected by this , there are some cars on our magic bridge that require more lanes,

so when the number of lanes gets cut , and the required lanes minus the available lanes becomes a negative number , the multi lane car is stopped dead in its tracks.

Vilence: AH.FM needs more dedicated ppl to do that

AH.fm does not need more dedicated people because even tho their staff is smaller than one of the radio stations that was founded in 1999 by a guy with a 3 letter name that starts with an A. AH.fm has much more to offer than this much larger site that starts with a D . AH has more programming more live broadcasts, yet less resources but its not about the what resources you have , its how you use them.

Vilence: As an AH.FM supported (Even tho im not donating like 1000 dollars per month) im a bit disappointed by the quality.. because I think there are enough funds around for a quality and properly done broadcast.

It does not work like that, running an internet radio station is expensive , , there is the cost of renting or buying the servers you have to maintain them, there is utility costs, taxes, and also royalties. Its not as simple as you think it would be.

I am not sure if this could be implemented but what if you could compress the the out going so it would take up less bandwidth and then have it be reexpand it on the other side. You would probably have to put a 2 to 3 second delay on the stream tho to do this. I know that this has been done in other fields mainly the military . Burst transmission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia this way if the available bandwidth drops below the uncompressed required it would be less of an issue.

In closing I think that improvements could be made to make thing run a little smoother , but its not the crew that needs to improve but rather its technology that needs to advance to make things less volatile , you the uncertaintiy out of it.
Catch her set on AH at 7pm EST on Day 9 use hashtag #AprilElyse
